Feeling Heavy Doesn’t Mean You’ve Lost Your Light

When Heaviness Makes You Question Yourself

Lately, I have been feeling down.

Actually, “down” feels too soft. It has been one of the heavier emotional periods I have experienced in a while.

On the outside, nothing dramatic has changed. I am still functioning. Still doing what needs to be done.

But inside, there has been a weight I cannot ignore.

And after years of inner work, learning from Shaltazar’s wisdom, and helping others navigate difficult emotions, I found myself asking a very human question:

Why am I still feeling this way?

After all the healing, awareness, and spiritual growth, shouldn’t I be beyond this by now?

That question can sting.

Because somewhere along the spiritual path, it is easy to begin believing that difficult emotions mean we have failed, slipped backward, or somehow lost our connection.

But maybe that is not what is happening at all.

Maybe heaviness is not proof that something is wrong.

Maybe it is simply part of being human.

Acceptance Is Where We Begin

No one chooses sadness, fear, or heaviness.

These emotions can distort how we see ourselves and the world. They can make us question everything.

And still, there may be wisdom here.

Not because we should seek suffering, but because perhaps we can learn not to fear what we feel.

The first step is to stop judging ourselves for feeling it.

Shaltazar often reminds us that acceptance is the lower end of the continuum of love.

We may not be ready to love the heaviness. But we can begin by accepting that it is here.

Acceptance does not mean we want it to stay or that we indulge it. It simply means we stop fighting the reality of what we are feeling in this moment.

That shift matters.

Because underneath our resistance is often an even deeper fear:

What if I get stuck here?

Sometimes that fear hurts more than the feeling itself.

Feelings Move

Notice how differently we treat lighter emotions. When joy or peace arrives, we do not worry that it will trap us forever.

We simply enjoy it.

But when heaviness appears, the mind often adds another layer of suffering.

What if this never passes?

What if this is who I am now?

What if I have lost my light?

But all feelings move.

Joy moves. Sadness moves. Peace moves. Fear moves.

None of them are permanent.

And none of them define us.

That is easy to remember when we feel good and much harder when we do not.

In darker moments, feelings can feel like truth. But a feeling is not necessarily the whole truth. It is an experience moving through us.

Feelings may point toward something that needs care, rest, attention, or expression.

We do not need to dismiss them. But we also do not need to become them.

We can feel sadness without becoming sadness.

We can feel heaviness without becoming heaviness.

We can feel hopelessness without deciding that hope is gone.

You Are More Than What You Feel

This is where a small change in language can become powerful.

Instead of: I am depressed.

We might say: I am feeling heavy right now.

Instead of: I have lost my way.

We might say: I am moving through a dark part of my path.

It is subtle, but it creates space.

When we say, I am this feeling, we merge with it.

When we say, This feeling is moving through me, we remember that there is more to us than this moment.

That does not mean pretending everything is fine.

It does not mean forcing positivity or spiritually bypassing pain.

It means learning how to hold what we feel without allowing it to become the entirety of who we are.

The Weather Changes, but the Sky Remains

Sometimes heaviness is too much to carry alone.

Reaching out, resting, speaking with someone we trust, or asking for support is not unspiritual.

It is loving.

And even with support, there is still something important we can learn:

How to become less afraid of our inner weather. Our inner world is always changing.

Some days are bright.

Some are stormy.

Some feel clear.

Some feel grey and heavy.

The weather changes.

But the sky remains.

Maybe that is what we are being asked to remember.

We are not only the emotion moving through us. We are also the awareness that can witness it, feel it, and allow it to move.

The Human Part Feels. The Spirit Part Remembers.

Human life is all about duality.

Light and dark.

Joy and sadness.

Peace and fear.

Expansion and contraction.

We naturally prefer one side of that spectrum.

But being human seems to mean experiencing all of it.

Perhaps the invitation is not to avoid darkness, but to move through it without losing ourselves.

Unity does not mean constant happiness.

It means understanding that every feeling belongs to the human experience, but no single feeling is the final truth of who we are.

We are Spirit in human form.

The human part feels. The Spirit part remembers.

The human part may ache, doubt, and feel lost.

The Spirit part quietly knows that this too will move.

And perhaps the more we allow ourselves to feel without rejecting ourselves, the more naturally the heaviness begins to shift.

Living the Wisdom From Inside the Experience

I am not writing this from above the heaviness.

I am writing from within it. Trying to live the wisdom while still learning it.

Maybe that is the point.

Living the wisdom does not mean we have mastered everything. Sometimes it means being willing to remain present with ourselves while we move through something difficult.

Right now, I am learning that darkness does not mean I have failed.

Heaviness does not mean I have lost my way.

Feeling deeply does not make me less spiritual.

Maybe becoming more fully human is part of remembering that we are Spirit.

So if you are feeling heavy right now, do not use that as another reason to judge yourself.

Let yourself feel what is here.

Reach out if you need support.

Rest if your body asks for it.

Be gentle if joy feels far away.

And remember:

You can feel heaviness without becoming it.

You can move through darkness without losing your light.

You can be fully human and still deeply connected to Spirit.

And when the heaviness eventually shifts, you may not need to force joy back.

You may simply notice it again.

In a breath.

In a kind word.

In a moment of stillness.

In the warmth of the sun.

And maybe, for today, that is enough.

Activate the Wisdom

Turning insight into embodied change

The next time heaviness appears, resist the urge to immediately make it mean something about who you are.

Pause and name what is actually true:

I am feeling heavy right now.

Then ask yourself:

What does this feeling need from me today?

Maybe it needs rest.

Maybe it needs expression.

Maybe it needs support.

Maybe it simply needs to be felt without being judged.

Then remind yourself: This feeling is moving through me. It is not all of me.

If your mind begins telling you that you are stuck or that you have lost your light, return to the image of the sky.

The weather may be dark. But the sky is still there.

And so are you.
